A few weeks ago I helped out with the Mr Simple Spring catalogue shoot with WA’s best photogs @fuckingryan & @lajosjohnvarga along with stylist @petchielala and man models @joiehutt & Mr Tottie. We took @vandoggy down the coast, broke into fenced off woods, talked far out stories & ended the day sailing & drinking tons of beer. Next day I had to shoot the studio stuff. @tencoatsofclear just whipped up the print last week, turned out pretty dope. Cheers to everyone behind the good times. Last night I had the privilege of shooting one of the worlds most influential street artists Niels ‘Shoe’ Meulman as part of his international Upside Down Tour at Rtist Gallery in Prahran on till February 12th.
Shoe’s been in the scene since the 80’s and unique style described as ‘Abstract expressionism with a calligraphic origin’, his style of art is ‘Calligraffiti’ mixing calligraphy and graffiti.
This picture is of Shoe’s explosive live performance during the exhibition. As he described it, I jumped into the ‘trenches’ with him to capture the moments as he scribed “Shoe” on RTIST’s rear wall with gold paint and a broom. Shoe launched glass bulb-bombs full gold paint, which literally exploded all over myself and the camera, it felt like a scene from war as loud music blasted through the gallery infront of a large crowd.. Within about 4minutes its was done and he exited covered in gold. Epic.
